Türkiye's purchases of Russian corn hit a record high in May

Turkey is planning to suspend wheat imports from June 21 to October 15 in order to safeguard local producers from plummeting wheat prices. In May 2024, the country purchased 843,000 tons of cargoes, predominantly from Russia, which accounted for 68% of total supply. Despite this, the supply remained relatively stable compared to April, with a minor decrease of 4%. The second most popular grain was corn, which saw a significant increase of 100% from the previous month, contributing to approximately one-third of the total supply. Barley made up less than 1% of the total supply, and no purchases were made in April. Millet, the fourth largest importer, saw a doubling of purchases in one month.
