Turkmenistan's imported greenhouse tomatoes are heavily dominating the wholesale markets in Tajikistan due to their great appearance, modern packaging, and competitive pricing. These tomatoes have effectively replaced Uzbek-made products in the Tajik market, highlighting the challenges within Uzbekistan's greenhouse industry. Despite issues with tomato production in Tajik greenhouse plants this season, prices for these vegetables have hit a record low of $1.46 per kg. Interestingly, tomato prices in Tajikistan are notably lower than in Uzbekistan, a major exporter, and compared to prices in Central European countries like Moldova and Poland, the prices in Central Asia are not as competitive. The article discusses the potential for energy-saving greenhouse technologies to enhance competitiveness in the market, even in colder climates.
