Peru: Turmeric exports continue to grow in volume and value in 2023

In 2022, between January and September, Peru exported 1,878 tons of turmeric worth $2.3 million, a record at the time. Even though many agricultural products face challenges, turmeric stood out with a 20% increase in volume and 30% in value in the first nine months of 2023, reaching a total of 2,252 tons for $3.7 million, according to FresFruit. Currently, India is the world's largest supplier of turmeric, followed by Burma and the Netherlands (mainly a re-export country). In 2022, Peru was ranked eighth in the world ranking of turmeric supplying countries and first in Latin America. With these new results, its global position is expected to improve. The growth of Peruvian turmeric exports is in line with expectations of a 12.5% increase in global demand between 2020 and 2025.
