The Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Turkey (TZOB) has announced a predicted increase in apricot production in the country, with an anticipated rise from 750 thousand tons to 800 thousand tons this year, representing a 6.7% increase. Turkey is the world's leading producer of apricots, contributing 20.8% of the global production, followed by Uzbekistan and Iran. The country's apricot exports, both fresh and dried, rank first globally. However, despite the increased production and global demand, local market prices remain unchanged from the previous year, while production costs have escalated due to factors like fuel, fertilizer, and pesticide price hikes, and increased irrigation fees. The current market prices do not cover these increased costs, leading to financial struggles for producers. The Turkish Farmers' Union (TMO) has urged the organization to purchase dried apricots from the market to help mitigate these challenges.
