Udmurtia's agricultural enterprises are actively exploring the technology of cultivating new, high-margin oilseed crops, with a focus on oilseed flax in the 2020 season. This follows the region's century-long tradition of flax-growing. The second farm in the republic has begun cultivating flax-curly, a type of flax, on experimental plots, using the high-yielding, early-ripening variety Abacus. The product will be used for vegetable oil and concentrated animal feed, specifically a new product called flaxseed cake. Early experiments have shown that this supplement can reduce the service period for cows by about two weeks.
