UK pig meat imports in November increased by 1,200t compared to October, with a year-on-year increase of 1,000t. Total year to date imports are down 2% compared to the same period in 2022. Lower production in the UK and lower European pig reference prices are contributing to the increase in import volumes, while demand factors have also played a role.
UK pig meat exports in November decreased by 4% compared to the same month last year, with total year to date exports 19% lower compared to the same period last year. All product categories have seen year-on-year declines, except for fresh/frozen pork. China is a major buyer of offal, though exports to China have been trending below previous years. The reduction in domestic production and the gap between UK and EU pricing are factors impacting the export market.
