Ukraine: Restoration of watermelon production volumes is due to their cultivation in atypical regions

The volume of watermelon cultivation in Ukraine is being restored. This began to be done by farmers who had never grown melons before, as well as in regions atypical for growing watermelons, for example, in western and central Ukraine. AgroTimes writes about this with reference to the Ukrainian Club of Agricultural Business (UCAB). “Kherson, which grew 37.5% of the total production before the war, could not be represented on the market last year due to the occupation. This year, production tried to recover on the right bank, but mined lands and constant shelling prevent the industry from fully launching. However, this year the supply is already greater; the Kherson Regional Branch reported that 300 tons of melons have already been collected,” the message says. Last year, watermelon production fell by half and amounted to 204.5 thousand tons. Most of the products were collected in the Poltava region - 36.7 thousand tons.
