In 2021, China's purchase of meal reached a record high of 8.7 million tons, marking a 12% increase from the previous year. The majority of these supplies, around 60%, were made up of sunflower and rapeseed meal. The main suppliers for sunflower meal were Ukraine and Bulgaria, while Canada and the UAE were the primary sources for rapeseed meal. However, despite this increase in imports, China's domestic market is experiencing an oversupply of oilseed meals, which is exerting significant downward pressure on prices.
