World: Ukraine will increase tomato production

The World Council of Tomatoes for Processing published a forecast that the world production of technical tomatoes will increase by 6% to 47 million tons. In a number of countries, including Ukraine, production will grow much more, TomatoNews reports. Tomato production will increase the most in Australia - by 103%, China - by 38%, Greece - by 23%, Chile - by 21%, Ukraine - by 20%. Instead, it will decrease - in California - by 9%, Portugal - by 7%, Iran - by 5%, Russia - by 2%. The largest harvest is predicted in China - 11 million tons. The growth of the harvest is explained by a sharp increase in the domestic consumption of tomatoes, the paste of which was included in popular local dishes. The increase in global volume is entirely due to an unexpected 40% increase in volume in China.
