Approximately 80% of the world's watermelon production is in Asia, with Ukraine being a significant producer, particularly in the Kherson region which accounts for 38% of the country's production. However, over the past five years, the cultivation area has decreased by 10%, covering 46.5 thousand hectares in 2020. Ukrainian watermelons for export make up about 8% of the production, with countries like Moldova, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Belarus being the main buyers. Ukraine's watermelon consumption is low compared to other countries, at about 4 kg per person per year, and only 1% of watermelons consumed in Ukraine are imported.
