The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is set to distribute wheat seed packages to farmers in southeastern Afghanistan to address the country's severe food insecurity, which affects 12.4 million people. This initiative, aimed at benefiting 5.9 million people in 2024, is funded by the World Bank, USAID, and the Swedish government, and comes in response to the acute food crisis highlighted by the World Food Program (WFP).
