The United Nations' Joint Sustainable Development Goals Fund has awarded a €1.8 million grant to boost the Surinamese pineapple sector through a project that will benefit rural communities. The project, 'Sustainable Pineapple Value Chain Development', will be implemented by the UN Industrial Development Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Labor Organization, and the UN Population Fund. The project will provide technical support and a guarantee facility to increase productivity and competitiveness, and will focus on generating income for indigenous communities, with a particular focus on the empowerment of growers and workers, and the inclusion of women and youth.
