Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Song Mi-ryeong met with Cindy H. McCain, Secretary-General of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), in Seoul to discuss cooperation on rice food aid and school meal support in developing countries. Korea has doubled its rice food aid to 100,000 tons this year, benefiting 11 countries. Both parties committed to the success of school meal projects in Somalia, Laos, and Guinea, with praise for the K-Rice Belt project's rice in Guinea. Korea also plans to join the 'School Lunch Federation' to share its school meal experiences. Secretary-General McCain noted Korea's shift from a recipient to a major donor country.
