Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has launched the second phase of the Bharat Chana Dal initiative in Delhi-NCR, aiming to make pulses more accessible and affordable. The government has introduced Bharat-branded pulses such as Moong and Masur dals at reasonable prices. In addition, the government is implementing policies to support domestic pulse production, including raising the Minimum Support Price for pulses annually and procuring certain pulses without a ceiling for the 2024-25 season. The government has also extended duty-free imports of pulses until March 2025 and increased Kharif pulse cultivation, leading to a decrease in pulse prices. Additionally, the government has procured 4.7 lakh tonnes of onions from the Rabi crop for price stabilization and is transporting onions in bulk by rail to ensure wider availability across the country.
