Union of Unions refuses to keep Western Sahara products under the trade agreement with Morocco

Unión de Uniones (UdU) has rejected the decision of the European Commission that keeps Western Sahara products under the trade agreement with Morocco, accusing the Commission of negotiating "in secret" with the North African country, "bypassing the opinion of the European Parliament to blatantly ignore" the ruling of the EU Court. The agricultural organization has expressed its "deep indignation" at the European Commission's decision to modify, "through a simple exchange of letters with Morocco," the Association Agreement to continue including products from Western Sahara under the same preferential regime as Moroccan products. The organization considers that this decision constitutes an "artificial mechanism that ignores the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) of October 4, 2024, which declared the 2019 trade agreements null and void for being applied to Western Sahara without the consent of the Sahrawi people."
