In Taiwan, a small Asian island, beekeeping has become increasingly popular, attracting individuals who see it as both a hobby and a potential source of income. The island has witnessed the emergence of various associations and groups focused on beekeeping, highlighting a growing awareness of the crucial role bees play in agriculture and the economy. A 43-year-old instructor leading the Taiwan Association for the Protection of Bees and Wasps has observed this rising interest. Meanwhile, Edwin Huang, a 40-year-old entrepreneur, is leveraging beekeeping workshops for business opportunities, including producing dyes from asters and planning a honey-themed restaurant. However, the practice faces challenges such as adverse weather, pesticide overuse, mites, and climate change, which threaten bee populations and, consequently, the agriculture dependent on their pollination.
