On Monday, November 24, a milestone was marked for animal health in the country: the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) officially began the field testing of an experimental vaccine developed by the Pasteur Institute of Montevideo for the control of the bovine tick. The trial, which will extend until May, involves over 4,000 animals in seven livestock establishments distributed in different areas of the country. This is a decisive moment in the research process that the Pasteur Institute has been developing for several years, with the support of the Animal Health Division and the technical monitoring of the MGAP. For the first time, the vaccine will be evaluated under real production conditions. The test covers properties in the north and east of the country, areas where the tick continues to be a significant health challenge.
