Uruguay has sold rice production for 2022/23

The world needs rice and climate change is affecting several countries that produce a basic cereal in the diet and culture of many nations. The President of the Rice Growers Association (ACA), Alfredo Lago, told Rurales El País that “ Uruguay has sold the entire rice harvest. In 2022/23, Uruguay planted a total of 159,700 hectares, with yields of 9,000 kilos per hectare and a production of 1.4 million tons. It is the main rice exporter in Latin America and ranks sixth among world exporters. More than 90% of the rice produced is exported.
