Rice planting for the 2024/2025 harvest has increased by 20% compared to the previous campaign, covering around 183 thousand hectares and nearing the record set in 1998/1999. Despite weather-related delays, the start of the harvest is considered satisfactory with over 90% of the global area planted by the end of November. Approximately 10% of the 1.5 million tons from the previous harvest remains to be sold and delivered before the end of February 2025. Alfredo Lago, president of the Rice Producers Association, is optimistic about the sector's prospects under the new government, led by Yamandú Orsi, and is hopeful for the ministry's strengths and the performance of the new Minister of Environment and Labor.
