The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) issued a resolution that tightens controls and increases fines for the detection of veterinary drug residues in bovine cattle intended for slaughter, as a response to the return of meat from China after finding traces of antiparasitics and the request from that country to take action. In conjunction with the General Directorate of Livestock Services (DGSG), the MGAP issued Resolution No. 311/2025, which establishes that the presence of residues of ectoparasiticidal veterinary drugs in bovine cattle intended for slaughter, and in which the established tolerance limits are respected, will have greater economic and suspension consequences. The measure was taken following the request of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, which asked Uruguay to take action to avoid repetitions of this type of detection.
