The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved HB4®️ Wheat, a drought-resistant strain developed in Argentina, for cultivation in the United States. The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed that the genetically modified wheat does not pose a risk to conventional wheat or the environment. This approval allows HB4®️ Wheat to be grown in the U.S. without restriction, and it can also be crossbred with other unmodified or modified plants not subject to these regulations. The U.S. FDA previously approved HB4®️ Wheat for consumption in 2022, and it has been approved for human and animal consumption in seven other countries. Field trials are also being conducted in Australia, and the wheat is under review for approval in several other countries.
