The Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported a decrease in the average price paid for white pan bread by 2.7¢ per lb in May, following a slight increase in April, with the national average retail price now at 197.1¢ per lb. Conversely, the price of whole wheat bread increased by 12.4¢ per lb in May, now costing 274.9¢ per lb. The national average price for family flour and white long-grain rice also saw slight decreases from the previous month, while the price for spaghetti and macaroni, as well as chocolate chip cookies, experienced slight increases from April but were lower than the prices in May 2023.
