REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono emphasized that the Ministry of Agriculture's policy direction in 2026 will shift towards strengthening value addition and national protein fulfillment. This focus will be pursued after the target for rice and corn self-sufficiency is projected to be achieved by the end of 2025. Sudaryono, who is also the Chairman of the Indonesian Farmers' Association (HKTI), conveyed that the government will no longer open rice and corn imports in the current year. This achievement becomes the basis for moving on to two major agendas next year. “This year we are focusing on rice and corn self-sufficiency, God willing we will achieve it by the end of the year because it is impossible to import anymore,” said Sudaryono. He detailed that the two main targets for 2026 include plantation downstreaming and increasing national livestock production.
