The import of soybean meal into Indonesia is growing amid increased demand for feed. This month, soybean meal imports into Indonesia increased by 200,000 metric tons, bringing the total volume of imports in the 2024/25 MY (October-September) to 6.2 million tons, which is 1.1 million tons more than in the 2023/24 MY. The poultry and aquaculture sectors in Indonesia use soybean meal as the main raw material for feed production, and as domestic demand for protein increases, soybean meal imports are expected to grow simultaneously (see Post report1). In the 2023/24 year, soybean meal imports decreased as Indonesia's compound feed industry faced the need to discard products and high raw material costs, which led to a decrease in demand. Until 2022/23, Argentina was consistently the largest supplier of soybean meal to Indonesia.
