In a recent statement, the College of Veterinarians of Entre Ríos took a firm stance against the traditional festivities known as pialadas. They warned that these events subject horses to situations of cruelty, causing serious injuries and even death, which violates Animal Protection Law 14.346. The College explained that a pialada involves tying the animal from its front legs, a maneuver that exposes the horse to a significant risk of physical harm, such as trauma and muscle injuries. The institution emphasized that this activity is incompatible with modern standards of animal welfare and the ethical practice of veterinary medicine. They also clarified that it cannot be justified under the pretext of being a cultural practice to exempt it from criminal responsibility.
