Vietnam has seen a 5.1% year-on-year increase in star anise exports, totaling 8,685 tons and valued at $41.9 million in the first seven months of this year. India continues to be the primary market, receiving 5,472 tons (63% of the total), followed by the United States, Taiwan, and China. The World Spice Association recognizes Vietnam as the world leader in star anise production, grown only in a few countries due to the unique requirements of the star anise tree. The plant is cultivated mainly in the northern border provinces of Lang Son and Cao Ping, with an annual yield exceeding 16,000 tons. Star anise is essential in both culinary and medicinal applications.
