In May 2024, Vietnam witnessed a significant surge in tuna exports to Spain, with a 182% increase compared to the same month in 2023, amounting to nearly 1.8 million USD. From January to May 2024, tuna exports to Spain rose by 32% to exceed 5 million USD. The majority of these exports consisted of frozen tuna meat or loin (HS code 0304), with frozen steamed tuna loin products also on the rise. As of 2024, ten companies are involved in exporting tuna to Spain, with Trang Thuy Seafood Co., Ltd, Bidifisco, and Tuna Vietnam leading the pack, contributing to 60% of the total export value. Spanish markets have seen a battle for market share between Vietnamese, Ecuadorian, Chinese, and Philippine tuna, with Vietnam playing catch-up in raw material supply despite its competitive export values.
