Vietnam: Pig production, trade and market conditions in 2023

At the end of 2023, the pig population is 26.342 million pigs (not including more than 4 million lactating piglets), an increase of 4.2% compared to the same period in 2022. Since 2019, the pig population has recorded an average annual growth of 6.94%. Total pork production is estimated to reach 4.866 million tons (slaughter live weight) in 2023, an increase of 7.2% compared to the same period in 2022. Since 2019, pork production has recorded an average annual growth rate of 4.3%. Domestically produced pork represents 62.1% of total meat production in 2023. The average price of feed ingredients in 2023 was lower than the average price in 2022. Corn prices fell the most (-12.5%). However, compared to 2020 (before the impact of the Covid pandemic), pet food prices are still 32-46% higher depending on the type.
