Vietnam has seen a significant increase in pangasius exports to Russia, with a 6.5 fold increase in May compared to the same period in 2023. The cumulative exports exceeded US$8 million, a 35% increase from the same period last year. Russia mainly imports dried and frozen pangasius whole fish and fillets from Vietnam. Despite a fluctuating demand, exports of dried and frozen pangasius to Russia increased by 77% year-on-year. However, there was a decrease of 35% in April. Vietnam's exports of frozen pangasius, the main product exported to Russia, accounted for 80% and exceeded 2 million US dollars in value in May, marking a 6.5 times increase year-on-year. Despite a decrease in export records from 2021 to 2024, the first five months of this year showed positive signs of recovery compared to the same period last year.
