Vietnam has seen a trade surplus of US$3.9 billion in agricultural products over the past seven months, with a significant breakthrough in the Japanese market for lychees. The Plant Protection Department has successfully negotiated to open more quarantine treatment facilities, enabling more lychee processing establishments to export to Japan. This has resulted in a tenfold increase in exports compared to last year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The department has also been actively engaging in market opening negotiations with countries like China, Russia, and the US, and is working on solutions to technical and trade barriers. The Department of Animal Health is promoting the export of livestock products, including milk, dairy, bird's nests, and processed chicken, to various countries. Additionally, the department is discussing with the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) to develop and recognize Vietnam's National Program on Foot and Mouth Disease Prevention to further boost livestock product exports.
