The price of durian in Vietnam is soaring due to a scarcity in the market, especially during the off-season when production is low. The high demand, coupled with a decline in off-season durian output in the West, has led to record-breaking prices, with grade A Monthong durian selling for VND200,000/kg. Vietnam's dominance in the Chinese durian market is expected to boost the export value of fruits and vegetables, potentially reaching a new high of 7.5 billion USD. Hoang Anh Gia Lai, a company that owns the largest durian farm in Southeast Asia, spanning 1,200 hectares in Laos, is set to profit significantly from the first harvest of its 26,000 durian trees in Laos.
