Vietnam's rice exports this year have faced significant disadvantages due to a sharp drop in prices. Statistics from the Industry and Trade Information Center (Ministry of Industry and Trade) show that in the first six months of the year, the average export price of rice decreased by 18.4% compared to the same period in 2024. The sharp decline in export rice prices led to an export turnover of rice in the first six months of only 2.44 billion USD, a decrease of 15.4% compared to the same period. The main reason for the drop in export rice prices is the abundant supply in the global rice export market. Since the lifting of rice export restrictions, India—the world's largest rice exporter—has been aggressively exporting rice, especially since India's 2024-2025 crop season achieved a record rice production of 149 million tons, far exceeding domestic market demand.
