Vietnam's coconut exports have seen a significant increase in revenue, from $180 million in 2010 to an projected $1 billion in 2024, driven by the approval for exporting fresh coconuts to China. The country aims to expand its coconut cultivation area to 200,000 hectares by 2030 to meet the rising demand. However, strict compliance with phytosanitary standards will be necessary to sustain this growth, especially with the increased pesticide residue limits by China and the European Union. Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports, including coconuts, reached a value of $6.2 billion in 2024, with China being a key market. The country is planning to expand its coconut cultivation area to include 175,000 hectares in the Mekong Delta and 16,000–20,000 hectares in the South Central Coast region by 2030.
