On July 3rd in the morning, Du Hongqing, Office Director of the Planting and Plant Protection Bureau of Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, stated that in the first half of 2025, Vietnam's total fresh durian export volume was nearly 130,000 tons. Among this, frozen durian export volume reached 14,282 tons, which is three times the same period in 2024.
The Planting and Plant Protection Bureau noted that frozen durian export growth significantly increased, partly due to market access policy promotion, especially the "Frozen Durian Export to China Protocol" officially taking effect in August 2024. Additionally, under timely guidance from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and local governments, Vietnam actively advanced deep processing and expanded export markets, reflecting efforts to diversify durian products and reduce dependence on fresh fruit markets, creating favorable conditions for enterprises to export frozen durian.
Mr. Du Hongqing pointed out that China recently approved nearly 1,000 planting zone and packaging plant codes, coupled with positive signals from some import markets and synchronized technical and management measures, fresh durian exports are expected to resume growth in the third quarter of 2025.
Furthermore, frozen durian export prospects continue to improve due to stronger stability and longer preservation periods. Currently, multiple enterprises have invested in building modern processing lines and cold storage facilities to meet high-standard requirements of potential markets like China, South Korea, Japan, and the European Union.
To promote exports, the Planting and Plant Protection Bureau has invited Chinese Customs General Administration experts to conduct on-site investigations of Vietnam's durian export chain from July 12-17, 2025. Simultaneously, the bureau has required laboratories to enhance detection capabilities for cadmium and auramine residues.
To date, 24 cadmium detection laboratories and 14 auramine O detection laboratories have obtained Chinese Customs General Administration (GACC) certification.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has also completed a draft circular regarding issuance and management of planting zone and packaging plant codes, ensuring stricter, more transparent, and practical management, and will soon publish it. Additionally, the ministry is developing export durian packaging plant quality supervision procedures.
To strengthen management of planting zone and packaging plant codes, the Planting and Plant Protection Bureau has comprehensively digitized related data. As of June 2025,
