A conference was held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the People's Committee of Dong Thap province to review the pangasius industry in 2024 and discuss strategies for 2025. In 2024, the pangasius farming area was approximately 5,370 hectares, producing around 1.67 million tons of fish and generating an export turnover of 1.56 billion USD, with projections to reach 2 billion USD. The industry, predominantly located in the Mekong Delta, is facing challenges such as raw material availability but sees opportunities with positive market trends and the recovery of the US economy. For 2025, the industry aims to produce about 1.65 million tons of fish and increase export turnover to 2 billion USD, focusing on selective breeding, alternative feed sources, and the pilot use of Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) technology. There was also emphasis on building a strong brand for Vietnamese pangasius, green production, scientific research, and expanding into new markets, including those requiring Halal certification.
