China and Hong Kong are the largest consumers of Vietnamese pangasius, contributing 28% to Vietnam's total export value. In June 2024, exports to these markets reached nearly $56 million, a 16% increase from June 2023. Frozen pangasius fillets, particularly popular, saw an 8% increase, totaling $36 million. Despite a 17% decline in the first half of 2024, frozen fillet exports still made up 61% of total pangasius exports to these regions. Other pangasius products also grew, with dried and other frozen products reaching nearly $100 million, an 11% increase. Although the average export price decreased by 7%-18%, export volume grew by 34% due to strong Q2/2024 performance. China's slowing economy has led consumers to prefer cheaper products like pangasius over domestic fish species. Top exporters to China include Truong Giang, Dai Thanh, Nam Viet, Hung Ca 6, and I.D.I Corp.
