Wando County in Jeollanam-do has established a jalpi intermediate breeding farm. The jalpi intermediate breeding project is being jointly promoted by Wando County, the Fisheries Resources Agency (FIRA), and the fishermen's association, and through site surveys in October last year, the areas of Yangcheon-ri in Sinji-myeon and Bongam-ri in Gogeum-myeon were selected as project sites. After planting jalpi seeds in the project sites, once they grow to about 30 cm, the seeds will be harvested and transplanted to a larger sea area. On January 26th, 300,000 jalpi seeds were planted in a 6-hectare area in Sinji-myeon and Gogeum-myeon. Jalpi forms forests along the coast, providing spawning and habitat for aquatic organisms and absorbing and storing carbon dioxide, acting as "blue carbon".
