Waskita Develops Irrigation Network in Merauke Worth Rp529.2 Billion
The irrigation project is one strategy to achieve food security

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk has been entrusted to build the Rawa Irrigation Network in the Food Production Center (KSPP) of Merauke Regency, Package I in South Papua. Waskita Karya's Director of Operations II, Dhetik Ariyanto, stated that the project, valued at Rp529.2 billion, is a manifestation of the company's support for the government's food self-sufficiency target. "Waskita will build a 77-kilometer channel that will channel water to land covering 5,000 hectares. The project is targeted to be completed within eight months," Dhetik said in a written statement in Jakarta, Sunday (2/11/2025). Dhetik said the project is highly anticipated by the community. The government plans to make the Merauke area one of the main food granaries in eastern Indonesia.
