Despite the challenging climate conditions in 2024 due to both droughts and extreme weather events, Chile's cities have not experienced supply disruptions, thanks to significant investments in water and sanitation infrastructure. These investments, totaling over US$ 2,378 million from 2020 to 2040, aim to mitigate the impacts of climate change and adapt to the new climate reality. The country's strict standards for drinking water, based on the Chilean Standard 409 and influenced by the World Health Organization, ensure a high water quality. Over a million controls are conducted annually to maintain this quality, resulting in a compliance rate of 99%. This level of investment and commitment to sanitary services places Chile among the global leaders in providing safe and quality drinking water to its population.
