A report by the European Action Network against Pesticides (PAN Europe) and Ecologists in Action has found that 75% of Spanish strawberries contained pesticide residues in 2021. The study also noted a rise in the use of 'forever chemicals' or PFAS pesticides, which pose serious health and environmental risks. Spain, along with other countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Portugal, and Greece, is a major producer of PFAS-contaminated food within the EU. Over the past decade, PFAS contamination has surged by 148% in vegetables and 80% in fruits.
