Water stress in Peru: the nature-based solutions that are making a difference

By 2050, up to 60% of the world's population could face severe water scarcity and demand for the resource would increase by 20% to 25%, intensifying conflicts and affecting value chains in key sectors. In this global context, Peru already shows critical signs: the country ranks among the 32 countries with the highest water pressure on the planet and third in Latin America and the Caribbean, according to the new Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas 4.0 from the World Resources Institute (2024). In regions like Lima and Ica, water stress reaches extremely high levels, indicating a latent crisis. In response to this scenario, the private sector is beginning to assume a strategic role.
