Watermelon prices in Ukraine have already fallen below last year's levels, with the main reason for the price drop being the rapid increase in market supply due to hot weather, which accelerated the ripening of the fruit. This is reported by EastFruit. At the same time, drought, which is being recorded in the southern regions, negatively affects the quality of the crop, which further puts pressure on prices. As of today, the cost of watermelons from local farms ranges between 5–14 UAH/kg depending on the quality of the product and the volume of the batch. This is on average 36% cheaper than at the end of last working week. Interestingly, prices are falling even despite the reduction in the overall production of this crop in Ukraine. In particular, the main region for growing watermelons, Kherson region, is still under temporary occupation, and part of the crop in other regions was lost due to adverse weather conditions.
