We consume 2.5 million heads annually; Egyptian livestock importers are contracting new deals for goats and sheep

Egyptian companies announced the signing of new deals with Somalia and Djibouti, to import large quantities of sheep and goats designated for immediate slaughter, in order to confront the high prices of lamb meat in the market. Ahmed Hassan Hafez, President of the African Livestock Importers Association, said in his statements today: These deals come within the framework of efforts made to balance local market prices and ensure the availability of meat at reasonable prices, especially with preparations to increase consumption before the holy month of Ramadan. Hafez explained that the current prices of goats and sheep range from 200 to 230 pounds per kilo, noting that local consumption of sheep and goat meat has witnessed a noticeable increase as a result of the increase in the number of arrivals and tourists in Egypt, especially from the Gulf countries.
