In 2024, Central Asia experienced an unusually cool and rainy spring, leading to delays in stone fruit harvesting and quality issues. The Fergana Valley in Uzbekistan, a key cherry production region, saw a significant decrease in wholesale cherry prices, with a very short cherry season due to weather anomalies causing early harvesting of late cherry varieties. This season, more than 60% of Uzbekistan's fresh cherry exports are expected to come from the Fergana Valley, facing a reduced marketing period and lower prices.
