The European Union produces approximately 30,000 tons of horseradish annually, with Hungary being its largest producer. The majority of this production is exported to Germany, the UK, Poland, and the Czech Republic. The plant, native to Hungary, is particularly grown in the Northern Great Plain and is harvested from mid-October to months after. It is used in the food industry for pickled and vinegar preserves, and is known for its unique, pungent taste. Horseradish also has health benefits, including being rich in vitamin C, bactericidal, antiviral, and effective in urinary tract and kidney infections.
