Ukraine: We should not expect a boom in the supply of watermelons and melons, and therefore a significant decrease in prices

This year, there is a crisis in the cultivation of melon crops in Ukraine. Firstly, the areas under watermelons and melons are the smallest in history, having halved compared to the pre-war period, according to liga.net. The Russian occupation practically destroyed the infrastructure for growing melons in the Kherson region, including irrigation and logistics systems. Previously, the cheapest and highest quality method of transporting watermelons across the Dnipro on barges is now unavailable, which makes the situation much more difficult. Secondly, farmers and farms trying to grow melons in new regions face problems of adaptation to the new agricultural culture, which leads to an increase in cost and a decrease in yield. However, there are also positive points: for example, it turned out that watermelons are successfully grown in the Zhytomyr region.
