China has officially recognized Peru as free of Foot and Mouth Disease, paving the way for the export of beef and pork to China. This achievement, which began in 2013 and was completed under the current administration of MIDAGRI, could potentially lead to annual meat exports reaching one million metric tons and generating over $5 billion in sales. This is expected to empower small breeders in the Andean and jungle regions, providing them with better prices and higher incomes. This announcement is part of the APEC Economic Leaders Week, where agreements on the export of other Peruvian agricultural products to China are also expected to be signed. The inauguration of the new Chancay port terminal is also anticipated to reduce transportation costs and increase profitability.
