The Norwegian seafood industry experienced its second-best half-year performance on record, despite a decline in export value due to falling salmon prices. The value of exports in June fell by 18%, or NOK 2.7 billion, compared to the same month last year, a historic decrease. The decrease in value is due to biological issues reducing harvesting volumes, a change in product composition, and increased global competition. Factors such as weakening purchasing power in key markets and reduced fishing quotas also impacted the cost of other seafood products. The top 10 seafood products by value in the first half of the year included salmon, cod, trout, and shrimp, with salmon accounting for 70% of the total value. The top 10 destination countries for Norwegian seafood were also identified.
