Weather favors corn, but pace varies between regions

Corn planting in Rio Grande do Sul has reached 75% of the planned area, according to the Conjunctural Report released by Emater/RS-Ascar this Thursday (23). The institution reported that the progress occurs unevenly between regions due to different humidity and temperature conditions. In the main producing areas, planting is practically complete, with crops in the germination and vegetative development phases. According to the bulletin, "the good water availability and adequate temperatures have benefited the crop, except in isolated points where the lack of rainfall or excess moisture have imposed adjustments to the planting calendar." Currently, 8% of the crops are in vegetative growth and 2% in flowering, showing good plant vigor and architecture. Cover fertilization and weed control work are underway.
