Ecuador head-on shrimp prices remain stable at high levels, exporters raise quotes
In the 44th week, Ecuador head-on shrimp prices remained stable compared to the previous week, with the 20/30 specification maintaining a high price of $5.25/kg, which is $1.0/kg higher than the 30/40 specification.
This week, the China International Fisheries Expo was held in Qingdao, where 25 Ecuadorian exporters (mostly shrimp producers) made their debut, setting a historical record. AquaGold, Ecuador's third-largest producer, celebrated its first anniversary and announced a strategic partnership with Tianjin Jiuyi Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., designating the latter as the sole representative for AquaGold's market promotion and sales in China.
On the eve of the Qingdao Expo, some Ecuadorian manufacturers raised their prices for the Chinese market by $0.10-$0.20/kg, with the price of 30/40 specification frozen shrimp breaking through $5.0/kg, reaching a new high for the year.
Indian prices remain stable, main production areas hit by hurricane
In the 44th week, shrimp prices in Andhra Pradesh, India's main production area, remained stable compared to the previous week, maintaining the same price for three weeks. The U.S. still imposes a 50% tariff on Indian shrimp, and the full impact has yet to be seen.
Super Typhoon Montha is expected to make landfall in the Kakinada area on October 28, close to Andhra Pradesh's production areas, and is expected to negatively impact most farms in the region.
A farmer said, "If the hurricane makes landfall tonight, our power system is likely to be damaged. Due to the prolonged low temperatures, feeding has also been affected, and we expect the weather to return to normal on October 30."
Indonesian prices rebound sharply, but crisis in the U.S. market remains unresolved
This week, shrimp prices in East Java, Indonesia, rose significantly, reversing a downward trend that had lasted several weeks. However, the current prices are still at historical lows, within the lowest price range since 2018.
Starting from October 31, Indonesian shrimp exported to the U.S. market must submit proof of radioactive element testing, and the Indonesian government has urged exporters to temporarily avoid the U.S. market.
Industry insiders in Indonesia believe that the current price increase is just a short-term rebound from a sharp decline and does not indicate that the export crisis has been resolved. Business with the U.S. remains challenging.
Vietnam shrimp prices remain stable
In the 44th week, the price of white shrimp in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam remained stable, with higher premiums for large sizes and relatively limited supply. Large-scale processing plants in Vietnam have higher purchasing prices, and the market is expected to remain strong in the coming weeks.
Thailand prices remain stable overall
Finally, in the 44th week, Thailand's white shrimp prices remained stable overall, with a slight decrease in smaller sizes. Thailand's prices are generally low, and there are no signs of an increase at present.
